I wrote a book called BLACK HARVEST.
It was a murder mystery, with a plot and
characters,
a setting and a theme. It turned out to be a novella.
34,000 words.
A novel is at least 50,000 words,
and that's a short one. It's true Animal
Farm was
30,000 words, and The Old Man and the Sea was only
22,500.
A double issue of Life magazine. But tell that to
a publisher. He'll
say, "You're not Hemingway." Or,
"You aren't George Orwell."
"Politics
and the English Language."
"The Prevention of Literature."
