For the Event of Ease On

I saw President Obama address
a joint session of Congress.
The Republicans sat on their hands
and gave him sour looks. Haynes Johnson
and David Broder were right. The system broke.
The American character is schizophrenic. Fractured.
There is a divide between people who defend property
and people who care about human beings. The content
of our character is democratic, in that it's writing on
latrine walls. Arm-wrestling contests. Brute force and repetition.
Plus ça change. The American schoolyard has beat me again.
No crayons for you, Jack. You fidgeted during nap.
Eight years of Bush isn't gone, it was merely dormant.
A sleeping cancer, to mix a metaphor.
Calling Obama Hitler. He isn't Hitler,
he is Stalin. Get your metaphors straight.
They are so hateful they can't stand themselves.
A bunch of insult comics. Party-line and talking-points.
Well, two can play that game. Let's win this one for the Gipper.
