Old Folks

Q: Why did you record the Peter Sellers biopic? Do you want to keep it?

A: No, we want to watch it.

It wasn't convenient to watch it, Sunday night.

Too late.

It takes us two nights to watch a movie sometimes.

We like to be able to back it up, when we don't hear what they said.

A DVD, we put on subtitles, "for the hearing impaired."

Most nights, I have too much to do, to watch a whole movie.

I write after work, when I get home.

I write before I leave for work.

I write on the way to work and back.

I try not to write at work.

You have no idea how bad my job interferes with writing.

Q: You're like Bartleby the Scrivener, saying, "I'd prefer not to."

A: More, "I can't be bothered," or, "I have more important fish to fry."

Q: Do you make them feel like you are doing them a favor?

A: I try not to. People who are paying your paycheck don't like that.
