11th Grade

I was sent to a boarding school run by the Methodist Church

for my junior year in high school.  Young Harris Junior College.

The last two years of high school and the first two years of college.

I was expelled, for associating with bad companions.  I went back home.

I had been in trouble there for running my mouth in class.  Sassing teachers.

I felt like I’d been treated unfairly, but it was my word against theirs.

It was a kangaroo court.  Summary justice.  I liked it when Fletcher Christian

put Captain Bly in a small boat and sent him back to England.

I saw myself as Marlon Brando.  In The Wild One.

Possibly Robert E. Lee Prewitt in

From Here To Eternity.  Red could stay,

because he was not a bugler.  But Prewitt

had to leave, because he wanted most of all to stay.

I was an idealist.
