Heather Parker is
one of the co-founders of the CityArts Cooperative (Arts Coop) on Lucerne
Avenue in Panama City. They have a big two-story building there with
studio space, exhibition space, a space for dance classes, meeting rooms,
classroom space for art lessons, a workshop where the homeless make useful
pieces out of donated furniture, and are paid with a trolley pass, supporting
public transportation and helping people without their own vehicle get from
place to place.
I asked Heather
if she made a living selling paintings and she said she didn’t. Yet.
She taught
workshops in Port St. Joe and Panama City
Beach, painting classes at the Arts
Coop, she taught continuing education classes at Gulf
State Community College,
and she was an artist in residence at the Chautauqua
Learn & Serve Charter
School.
I remember taking
a picture of her varnishing a mural at the school when the artists finished
painting it.
