An editor asked for a story
for the September issue. By next week.
I wrote one to order. That day. “Do it Yo’self.”
It combines fiction and nonfiction. It is about
what I am doing. I didn’t need an author bio.
Internal evidence suggested everything the reader
would need to know. Indeed, more that he wanted,
probably. It’s hot off the presses. Like composing
directly into the Linotype machine. They call Owen
The Machine, shucking oysters. I included a category for
Big Rick. Oyster shucker. Mechanic related to machine.
I call myself a word mechanic.
