While at the colony I will write a book (WC FELLOW) about
being a Writers Colony Fellow. Like Will
Stockdale being a Permanent Latrine Orderly (PLO) in basic training in No Time for Sergeants. Everybody is interested in the mechanics of a
craft. Remember The Violent World of Sam Huff?
Didn’t you ever wonder what went on at a writers colony, or on a movie
location, or on an archeological dig?
It’s a writer’s voice that interests us.
Poor Boy at the Party. An innocent abroad. Roughing it.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I look at Norman Mailer the way Frederick
Exley looked at Frank Gifford in A Fan’s
Notes. I will read Tough Guys Don’t Dance. I will watch the movie. I will watch Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid.
It’s a comedy. What did Ed
Sanders call Love and Fame in New York? Genius Hick among the Cityslickers. Imagine Charles Serking at the foundation in Tales of Ordinary Madness. He ended up walking barefoot in the broken
glass. His new shoes were too
tight. Jesus, I hope I don’t freak out
and clench up. So much pressure. That’s the theme. So much pressure. My bluff has been called. Be careful what you wish for you might get
it.
