A Problem with Authority

There's a scene in Screed where the hero, Fig Newton,
and a character based on Ed Ball, Frank Murphy,
are standing on the diving platform at Wakulla Springs,
and its supposed to be like the climactic scene in
The Condemned of Altona, where Fredric March
and Robert Wagner are in the foundry, and Shostakovich's
11th Symphony is playing in the background, the czar's Hussars
cutting down the peasants with their sabers. From a play by
Jean-Paul Sartre. I thought I was going to be an existentialist
when I grew up. I don't know what I am. A nihilist.
A recovering alcoholic. A disgruntled worker,
who has a problem with authority.
A failed writer. I guess I have
a problem with authority there.
Doesn't take editing.
Wear a storm-trooper hat
and paint in the attic, like Maximilian Schell.
Drink champagne and take Benzedrine and paint like
one of the Entartete Kunst. A degenerate.
This movie is not available on home video.
Sophia Loren was in it. I'd fuck her. Of course,
she is a movie star. That's what movie stars are for.
Take their minds off their conditions of production.
