Q: What year was this trip?
A: I published Evil Genius in 1986. This was after that and before
Fantasy Fest '87.
Fantasy Fest is at Halloween. The Queers' National Holiday.
Q: Was there a homosexual presence in Key West in 1986.
A: Yes. Tennessee Williams lived there. Porfirio Rubirosa, with his coffee mill.
Q: So a homosexual might have picked you up?
A: Yes. That's more likely than me picking up a woman.
Although
neither one is likely.
I just wanted to drive down to the keys by myself.
Stay in a motel, eat in restaurants, and walk around, by myself.
Recharge
my batteries.
Q: And that is all you did?
A: It was like research.
I wrote a couple of pamphlets. Inspired
by my trip.
Q: What pamphlets?
A: The Jiz Biz, The Unwobbling Pivot, and HAWK: Black McGoon in Key West.
Q: So you were calling your hero Black McGoon.
A: Yes. I think HAWK: Black McGoon in Key West had a picture of the historic bat tower on Sugarloaf Key on the cover. Drawn by me.
Q: What did The Unwobbling Pivot have on the cover?
A: An Easter Island megalith, gazing out to sea.
Q: How about The Jiz Biz?
A: A two-headed dildo called The Anaconda.
The Jiz Biz was
an X-rated screenplay.
Q: So when you went to Key West you were there on business.
Even
though not the jiz biz.
A: Yes. The writing business.
Writing in my head.
Scribble,
scribble, scribble--eh, Mr. Gibbon?
