I once drove to St. Pete for the opening of
an art gallery, and went by the
house Jack Kerouac
died in. He once owned the house next to it.
I could identify
with that. I could identify with him
writing Vanity of Duluoz, and dying.
Em McElderry
said he went by the house once and Jack was inside, passed out,
drunk.
Memere asked Mack for money. She said Jack's income,
from writing, the royalties,
from all his books, was $65 a week.
I can identify with that. I make $1,000 a
month, social security,
less what they take out for Medicare, and Medicare isn't
what
it used to be. I don't get unemployment because I didn't pay enough in.
I
exhausted my benefits. There's not enough money in my account.
