Posey's

Posey's served raw oysters and smoked mullet
with drawn butter and lemon juice.
When Paul Hemphill taught a writing seminar
at Florida A&M, they met at Posey's.
Susan Percy and Cindy Miller took it.
He later married Susan Percy. Cindy Miller
wrote for the Tallahassee Democrat, then went
to law school. I think she was active in local politics.
Women's issues. Paul was a good old boy who wrote about
country music, stock-car racing, and minor-league baseball.
He wrote about growing up in Birmingham. His father was
a truck driver. They might have come to Panama City Beach
on vacation. The Redneck Riviera. The natives pronounce it Rivera.
That's not true. I made it up. I've always wanted to say it.
When you see a chance, take it. Susan edits and writes a column
for Georgia Trend. Brenda and I dug with Jim and Cindy Miller
one weekend at Lake Jackson. He was the Florida State Archeologist.
