Skylark

I rented a car and drove down to the keys on Friday morning.
Did Johnny Mercer write "Skylark"? What kind of a person
would rent your father's car, a Buick, to go on holiday, in the keys?
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. I kept my eye peeled
for a female hitchhiker, carrying a shoulder bag with a can of Mace in it.
Get myself sprayed as a malefactor. Through meadowland towards
a closing door, that wasn't there before, a door marked Nevermore.
No, that's "The Days of Wine and Roses." This was more like
"If We Make It Through December." Draft beer and Red Smith
pickled sausages. "15¢ - pay no more." Reuse the pink formaldehyde,
the jar. What do you think they preserve them with? Battery acid?
A schooner of Ballantine beer, on tap, was 15¢ at Kay's Place.
Kay Kamiya. He played basketball with my father for Delray High.
I always thought of Kay's when I thought of The Iceman Cometh.
