I met Dennis McMillan at Miami Book Fair.
Bought a xeroxed copy of A Guide
for the Un-
dehemorrhoided. He said he and Willeford had
discussed my
work, and decided I was a good writer,
but I'd never be published by New York,
because I was too
off the wall. Willeford later used that as the title of his
book
about Son of Sam. Off the Wall. Maybe he said Out There.
Too
Out There. Hunter S. Thompson said it never got weird enough
for him. And
he was pretty weird. He was a state agent at it.
The Curse of Lono, for
example. "A Dog Took My Place."
I don't think I was out there enough.
