I cooked collard greens and blackeyed peas
for New Year’s Day, and made a hoecake.
Larry and Hazel sent a picture by way of
email. Next is Mardi Gras, then Larry’s birthday run,
the Ides of March. He runs his age each year.
Sixty-something miles this year. Geezers in the Park.
No, wait. He discontinued the practice when he turned 60.
Don’t want to be a fanatic about it. He just lives naturally,
he says. Hazel and the Delta Ramblers, in which band he plays bass,
is grandfathered-in at Jazz Fest. They’ve been there since
the beginning. Eat organic fruits and vegetables
and lots of whole-grain breads.
