Soylent Green

It got cold last night.

I kick off the covers and wake up freezing.

I don’t heat my room.  I have an electric heater

for the daytime.  I used to have an electric blanket.

I don’t know what happened to it.  Usually, a cold snap

passes.  It’s like the roof.  It only leaks when it rains.

When it isn’t raining, why do anything about it?

The weather is to be borne in patience.

I was in Korea in the winter.

This isn’t cold.  But I am

getting older.  I like summer.

I like to sweat.  I don’t mind the heat.

It can’t get hot enough for me.  I have

a ceiling fan.  I don’t like air-conditioning.

Henry Miller didn’t like ice cubes or the radio.

I used to listen to it but noncommercial means commercial.

Not-for-profit means for-profit.  War is peace, freedom is

slavery, ignorance is strength.  Nineteen Eighty-four.
