The Business of Business

When you

do what

I've done

in seclusion

as consistently &

as long as

I've done it

the laws of

nature go

whacko.

John Bennett, The Laws of Nature

The business of business is culture.

Is manipulating the culture.  Managing the zeitgeist.

Dr. Rikki Ott says the difference between Exxon

20 years ago and BP now is that the government is

more passive and the corporation is more aggressive in

managing the information.  Think of how much they spent

on ads, telling us what a good job they are doing.  Think of how

they sprayed dispersant on it, knowing it was poison, to make it sink,

so you couldn’t see it.  Think of a cropduster spraying DDT

on farmworkers, or E. coli in the spinach.

Agribusiness.  Oil.  Pharmaceuticals.

Price of rice goes out of sight

when price of oil goes up.

It’s all connected.

The oil spill,

you could see.

That’s bad public relations.

Out of sight, out of mind.  Fill up

with Billups.  Your friend.
