WRITER is diatribe.  It’s in the tradition of Philip Wylie’s Generation of Vipers, Hunter S. Thompson’s Generation of Swine, and Joe Bageant’s Deer Hunting with Jesus.

Philip Wylie said he read Time magazine to keep abreast of the biases.  I read Time to see what’s on television.  To see what book New York is talking about.  Like old ladies gossiping over their tea.  As Thoreau says.

To me, Walden, Specimen Days, and Bartleby the Scrivener are diatribe.

Apropos of days, WRITER was posted daily, on the worldwide web, in real time.  A day in the life of a gonzo journalism after everybody has a home page.

I have ten readers.  Possibly 20.  The Buzzard Cult, I call them, after the Southeastern Ceremonial Complex, a revitalization movement that swept the Lower Mississippi Valley just before and after European contact.

      High-one-, low-two-figures.

The Buzzard Cult isn’t no cult, it’s a very small cult.
