The Class of ’57 Had Its Dreams

High school, high school, college too.

Go to church on Sunday learn the Golden Rule.

Blaze Foley.  I didn’t like these people in junior high.

They seemed slightly superficial to me.  They high-hatted me

because I wasn’t on the high school annual.  I wasn’t the captain of

the football team.  My father wasn’t a dentist.  I didn’t drive a hot rod.

I was a juvenile delinquent.  I watched Marlon Brando in The Wild One.

James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause.  I identified with Sidney Poitier

in The Blackboard Jungle.  Actually, with Mr. Didier.  (Mr. Daddy-O.)

Holden Caulfield in The Catcher in the Rye.  Better not get caught

with a dog-eared copy.  Dread Clampitt.  Americana Music Festival

Conference, Station Inn, Nashville, September 2010.

The Class of ’57 Had Its Dreams.

The Statler Brothers.

Hit it, Wichita.
