The Great Man

I’m reading The Great Man, by Kate Christensen.

It’s about postmodern things like authorship, and

unreliable narrators.  Multiple points of view.  Rashomon.

The great man had a mistress and a sister who was a painter too.

It’s about gourmet cooking, and fashion.  The New York art scene.

Book publishing.  Academics.  Peripherally.  Aren’t academics

peripheral to everything?  Isn’t book publishing about fashion?

Isn’t cooking contrived, and entirely too busy?

I called a writer Corybantic Minceur.

Prissy dancer.  The genus of the pelagic fish,

the dolphin (not the mammal, the porpoise),

is Coryphaena, the leader of the chorus.

In Hawaii, Mahi Mahi.

Cube, dredge in water-ground

cornmeal (Hoover’s, from Bonifay),

and deep-fry, quickly, until just brown.

Not the same as pond-raised tilapia (Asian grouper).
