I got breakfast cooked, the kids took turns
deciding what they watched on television.
We’re getting ready to go to the park.
It’s a replay of yesterday. We’ll eat lunch,
then Eb will take a nap, and Ella and Rowan
and I will go swimming at Mrs. Harrelson’s.
She was Brenda’s mother’s double-first-cousin.
One of her grandchildren has a Styrofoam kayak.
Yesterday, he let Rowan and Ella take turns
paddling it. Then Grandpa will fix supper.
Then the kids and Brenda will watch teevee
and I will excuse myself to read, in my room,
and write poems, and post them on the worldwide web,
like anybody gives a shit. Life gets tedious, don’t it.
