Dear Janet Reid:
You're right. A series of 12 books has a price point problem.
If Patrick
O'Brien had written the entire 21-book Aubrey/Maturin series, and not published a
single volume of the series, he wouldn't have been able to sell the complete (well,
20 complete and one unfinished fragment) series, as a set.
Who's Patrick
O'Brian?
Thanks for explaining that.
I have decided instead, or in
addition, to write a one-volume memoir.
I will serialize the memoir, daily,
as I write it, at The Daily Bulletin, like Lynn Freed publishing "Doing
Time: My Years in the Creative Writing Gulag" in Harper's, in July,
to drum up an interest in her collection of essays, Reading, Writing & Leaving
Home: Life on the Page, to be published in book form in September.
But
it's not a blog, or anything like a blog. It's a memoir that was serialized on the
worldwide web, daily, as it was being written.
During the month of August
2005. The last month of my 34th year as a writer. Without selling a book to New
York.
I'm going to call it SORRY BUT NO: CONFESSIONS OF AN UNDERGROUND WRITER.
All best,
Jack Saunders
