A: If I'm going to quit posting my books at The Daily Bulletin, daily, as I write them, I can give TWO ZINE FESTS the subtitle A SWAN SONG FOR DAILY TYPEWRITING.
Q: You can.
And it will be your last book, for awhile. Or your
last book published online, as you wrote it.
A: I'll be writing UNDERGROUND WRITER. I just won't be publishing it myself.
On the Internet.
I'll be writing a proper book.
Can I call it A LEGEND
OF THE UNDERGROUND?
Q: A legend of the underground is an oxymoron, like Madcap Titan
of the Dustbin.
Big fish in a little pond.
Just call it
UNDERGROUND WRITER.
It's hard enough to sustain a career as an underground
writer, to continue in the face of hostility and indifference. Just making it as
an underground writer is a feat.
And it's a very appealing myth. There's
a romance to it. That's why so many insiders claim to be outsiders. Outlaws.
A: Buncha goddamn phonies.
