Old Folks at Home

Saturday afternoon.

Brenda made carbonara for lunch, with parsley out of her garden. Bacon and garlic. Cream and Parmesan cheese. I made a tossed salad. She picked snow peas, an eggplant, and a Seminole Indian pumpkin, which she is going to stir-fry for supper, with other fresh vegetables, and tofu.

They were so pretty, on the cutting board, on the butcher block, in the center of our kitchen, that I took a picture of them.

Then we listened to Così fan tutte on the radio. Brenda read Daylily Journal, a magazine discard from the library, 25¢. I read Come On In! New Poems, by Charles Bukowski.

Often in the evenings we watch a video together, but tonight there's a fight I want to watch on HBO, so I'll watch the fight in the living room and she will watch television in her room and surf the Internet.

I rode my bike to a filling station to get the tires pumped up. I'm going to start riding my bike to the post office and video store during the day and going for a walk after supper. I could stand to lose a little weight.

I'm eating right--except for drinking coffee--but am not exercising.

I'm going to quit drinking coffee on Monday, when I start riding my bike.
