I worked two part-time jobs. One as a Christmas casual at the post office.
I didn't like the post office.
The black supervisors played favorites. Among
the Christmas casuals--not just between Christmas casuals and the permanent employees.
You got the feeling they played favorites among the permanent employees, too.

I got another job writing two technical manuals at Tyndall AFB. That job
paid better than the post office.
I had two helpers, an ex-military person
who wanted to become a technical writer and his wife, who was a skilled typist.
All three of us were learning MS Word, and Windows, although I was proficient in
WordPerfect in DOS.
Now, when I applied for a job out of town, I could say
I knew MS Word, and Windows.
