Man of Letters

Q:  What is Man of Letters?

A:  I wrote letters to people.  I heard back.

Sometimes they visited me.  Sometimes I went to see them.

Later, I posted my books online, and strangers could communicate with me.  And I with them.  In the books.

The books are like a long letter from a friend, or to a friend.

Q:  Charles McGrath called a book Letter to an Imaginary Friend.

A:  Yes.  Copper Canyon Press.

I wrote Copper Canyon Press about what turned out to be NOTES FROM UNDERGROUND.

They declined to look at it.

Q:  Why?

A:  They only publish a few titles a year.

Q:  You write a lot of books in a year.

A:  Yes.

Q:  Too many for a small press.

A:  I’m a small press.

      I keep up.

Q:  Keep it in the family.  Stick with your friends.

A:  That’s good advice.  Thank you.
