The Two Things a Writer Needs

The two things a writer needs

are time to write and a place to send it

when you’re done.  Scrib had those.  Mind you,

one of them is a home-made web-site on the Internet.

And the other is GEFWIF—good enough for who it’s for.

That is, a laughably small amount of money.  Only an artist

would work for so little.  One of them $22.50 gigs.

Two 50¢ hotdogs and $20 cash.

Have you heard Jake Shimabukuro

play ukulele?  I kept good music,

good books, and folk art in the house

when the boys were growing up.

Apropos of being a good father.

I kept them in belt buckles

and guitar strings and pocket knives

and mittens at bluegrass festivals.

Later hats.  I paid an artist to paint me

for the cover of this book.  In a B & B Feed & Seed

gimme-cap from Byrum and Bubba’s in Wewahitchka.
