Who Is Jean Trebbi

One time when the Division of Cultural Affairs

turned me down for a grant, I asked to see the judges’ comments.

Jean Trebbi, Florida Center for the Book, in Fort Lauderdale, wrote

on my writing sample, “Verse of angry would-be poet.” At least

I got a title out of it. I called my next book DIARY OF AN ANGRY

WOULD-BE WRITER. Who says I’m a poet only? Who says I am

angry? Who says I’m would-be? Who is Jean Trebbi? When all is said

and did and done, I did it. Methinks the angry would-be poet doth protest

too much.
