Sunday

Saturday night, we just sat around, exhausted.

At least we could watch television.  Owen and Jean

gave us a mess of snapper throats and some head-on shrimp.

I boiled the shrimp in crab boil and fried the red snapper.

Brenda made her famous squash casserole.  We had Jodi over.

Sunday afternoon I went to the library and checked out a book

called Master Switch:  The Rise and Fall of Information Empires.

Is the same thing going to happen to the Internet as happened to

magazines and newspapers, radio, especially FM radio, even

noncommercial, public radio, and television, especially cable

television, which used to be commercial-free, but now has

all the commercials the traffic will bear?  What do you think,

Camerado.  Yes, that’s what I think, too.

The Chamber of Commerce.

Room 101.  Nineteen Eighty-four.

There will be a market-based solution.

The Republicans in Congress.  The Lunatic Fringe.

Profit maximization.  Fiduciary responsibility to investors.

There will be blood.  I drink your milkshake.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer on television.

An academic specialty called Buffy Studies.

Why couldn’t I sell a book to New York in 40 years?

Are there any other writers like me out here?

Am I crazy?  Am I alone in my private glory?
