Dear Andrei Codrescu:
I live in Parker, Florida.
I serialize my books online, daily, as I write
them, at The Daily Bulletin (www.thedailybulletin.com).
I am writing
a book about Louisiana, a Letter from Parker, as it were. I call it SQUIBS. Short
for VIGNETTES AND FEUILLETONS: SQUIBS FROM A WRITING LIFE.
I pitched
the book to John Easterly, LSU Press, but haven't heard back yet.
I worked
as a custodian for four months and got behind on my writing. I am just now catching
up.
The book I am posting now, TAKING STOCK, CATCHING UP, MOVING FORWARD:
TWO WEEKS IN THE LIFE OF AN UNDERGROUND WRITER, I am only up to December 12.
SQUIBS has taken the bit in its teeth and bolted. As books do.
By and by,
I will post it on the web. I hope to catch up and be current, one day.
I
mention LSU in the book, and Exquisite Corpse. And you. Here's a copy of
the first week's writing. It contains this letter.
I plan to drive to New
Orleans the weekend of Martin Luther King Day, with Brenda.
Beyond that,
I'm not sure what my plans are, although I'd like to go to New Iberia and Avery Island,
two places I dug, when I was an archeologist. And I'd like to spend a day in Ocean
Springs, Mississippi.
Here's what I'm up to and what I have done so far.
As a professional courtesy. Writer to writer, like.
