Factotum

Factotum came from Netflix. I watched the making-of featurette.

Also, I saw a preview for Coastlines, and preordered it from Amazon.com.

Coastlines goes with Ruby in Paradise and Yulee's Gold to form a Northwest Florida triptych.

I'd say Factotum goes with Post Office and Women to form a Los Angeles triptych.

But then there's Ham On Rye, and Bukowski's two volumes of letters.

To me, Seedy, Stove-Up, and T-A-R-D Tired: Three Books About the Writing Life are like Post Office, Factotum, and Women.

CUSTODIAN, OR, SECRET MASTER is about a particular dead-end job.

HOUSEHUSBAND, OR, THE KING OF DAILY TYPEWRITING is about a succession of dead-end jobs. A 35-year succession of them.

And GULF COAST BLUES: A MONTH IN THE LIFE OF FLORIDA CHRONICLER CONTENDER RAZZ HEAP, THE HAPPIEST MAN ALIVE is about my domestic arrangements, including kids and grandkids, neighbors and relatives. A family tradition and a waterman's pride.

These three books were all "published" at The Daily Bulletin. A Newsletter on the State of the Culture, or, How To Write World Literature from Parker, Florida.

Ingmar Bergman said, "This is how we make movies in Sweden."

I say, "This is how I write books in Parker, Florida."

What I'm doing is heroic. Writing SQUIBS.
