Granny Brown
Hazel played a Dread Clampitt song, "Granny Brown," and asked Brenda
to say something about the song.

She said one time Balder asked Granny what the Depression was like, for a
school project. She spit her snuff--Brenda made a snuff-spitting sound--and said,
"Weren't no such thing--we always lived that way."
Hazel also mentioned
that when Gerald and Del's house was flooded, and all their art work destroyed, a
picture of Granny Brown hung high enough that it escaped the rising waters. It was
the only picture or painting that did. Probably Del, the daughter-in-law's, least
favorite painting or picture. Granny still treated Del like an outlander.
She's not from around here. She's from Brooklyn.
Hazel didn't mention Gerald
or Del by name, but Gerald used to listen to her program every Sunday. Don't know
if they have that capability in their FEMA trailer.
