The Leather Jacket
Point and Shoot, Florida (YU)--Before his trip, Heap went to a Target store looking
for a sweater.
He saw a leather jacket on sale for $32. It was a 2X, in
a simple style, not too many zippers. He tried it on. He liked the way it fit.
He bought it. He liked the way it smelled. He liked the way he looked.
He wore it to The Red Bar on Sunday, and received several compliments on it, but
they were tongue-in-cheek, like he was in mid-life crisis, and would next show up
with a raw-silk shirt and gold chains.
People asked him if he rode his bike.
He said, "It's not a motorcycle jacket, it's an aviator jacket. I flew my ultralight.
It's parked on the beach out back."
At least people respected him enough
to tease him. Not whisper about him behind his back.
Of course, they whispered,
too.
Jody Powell said a reporter, a northerner, told him, about Griffin Bell,
"Every time I hear him speak I picture him down there whipping slaves."
A New York Jew.
Say that and you are an anti-Semite. And a white
supremacist.
