Folk Masters at Wolf Trap

Point and Shoot, Florida (YU)--When Owen was 16, he dropped out of high school to go on the road with a hard-driving bluegrass band, the Gillis Brothers.

Scott Nearing said, "In the College of Hard Knocks an expulsion is often a promotion."

Owen was no longer in the band when they were chosen to be Folk Masters at Wolf Trap. But the picture they used in the program had Owen in it.

Owen was playing with Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver by then, where he toured Europe, appeared on the Grand Ole Opry, and was nominated for a Grammy.
