When I think of fishing I think of Bill
and when I think of Bill I think of
death.
Driving to Vermont to see him in the hospice.
Eating at an Applebee's
or a TGIFriday's,
staying in chain motels on the interstate,
reading the complimentary
USA Today,
watching cable television in my room.
There was a special
on Alzheimer's.
Douglas Fairbairn had Alzheimer's.
He died not knowing he had
been
a writer. I'm not afraid of dementia.
You don't know you have it.
