Q: So you drive over to Live Oak and come back with the idea for a 12-book series.
A: I think when I'm driving.
I had the idea before I went.
I fleshed it out, on the drive. And after I got back.
Thought about what
Guy Lit means. Whom Guy Lit appeals to.
Jeff Potter emailed me about a lady
in California ordering Screed and Tales of the Texas Gang. Feminists
are old. The pure, uncorrupted feminists. Not the young female careerists in publishing.
I started writing a proposal for The Empty Nest.
I renamed the series.
I changed the subtitle from A Year in the Life of an Underground Writer to
Old Folks's First 35 Years as a Writer.
I rewrote the outline of the
12 books, changing I to Old Folks. My to his.
Q: Now what?
A: Finish writing OLD FOLKS AT HOME.
Write PHILLY ZINE FEST, in
July.
Write HURRICANE SEASON, in August.
Begin writing The Empty
Nest September 1.
Q: Good luck.
A: Luck has nothing to do with it. It's application. And tenacity.
