Glynn Alam said she knew Michael Connelly when.
She was living in Los
Angeles and belonged to the Mystery Writers of America out there.
The membership
were all aware of Black Echo, and knew Connelly was the real thing.
"An auspicious debut," Pyle said.
* * *
They had eaten lunch.
Michael Lister was interviewing Michael Connelly.
He asked intelligent questions, and Connelly replied intelligently. It was like
hearing him teach a master class.
They talked about career milestones.
A writer's career is more than the books he has written, although it is usually based
on that. It's their publishing history, too. How they were received, by readers
and critics.
If you didn't have a publishing history, and regretted it, and
wished you had had one, in your books, that can work against you, because nobody
wants to hear you complain.
Nobody wants to hear your bellyaching.
You're a sore loser who couldn't hack it, carping at your betters.
Whining
and making excuses.
You're just another whiner.
