Pyle was sitting outside the classroom where his lecture was scheduled, waiting
for the previous class to empty out.
He had his backpack full of pamphlets.
A coed sat next to him on the bench.
The program said Black Papers: The
Dark Side of Publishing. Large Pyle.
Pyle's nametag said Large Pyle.
She said, "What's this about?"
Pyle looked at her. She was adorable,
even if she was only 15 years old.
He said, "Michael Lister is interviewing
Michael Connelly in the large lecture hall. That's the one I'd go to. Also, Cricket
Freeman is talking in Room 16 about Developing an Author Platform. If you're interested
in writing nonfiction, that will be interesting. I'm just grumbling about the state
of book publishing in an age of Facebook and Twitter. Here is the gist of what I'm
saying. Pamphlets I wrote to hand out at my lecture. If you read these, you won't
have to sit in there and listen to me drone on. I'm not a very captivating public
speaker. I tend to ramble and mutter in my beard, like Marlon Brando."
Pyle dug in his backpack and got her a brown packet and a white packet.
He
also gave her a business card, with his url on it.

"I post what I'm writing every day at that web site. The Daily By-Catch.
"Tomorrow will be about today."
"Thank you," she said.
"Thank you very much."

As she walked off, Pyle looked at her, walking away, and sighed.
